Our mission is to
Support vulnerable and weak groups, regardless of religious, ethnic or political affiliation
- Provide instant and long-term aid for victims of disasters and war to mitigate the effects in the best possible way for each individual
- To cooperate with international, national and local organisations and associations to enhance the effect of our actions
When catastrophes strike
Danish People’s Aid specialises in re-housing when disaster has struck. For more than 20 years we have provided re-housing for people in distress, which means that we have achieved an established reputation of experience in this field. Other organisations profit from our developed concepts in locations such as Haiti. Re-housing can be combined with technical training and solutions to water and sanitary problems.
Once we have carried out the immediate acute emergency aid, our key activity is reconstruction. However, we are capable of distributing food and providing many other kinds of instant assistance.
From emergency aid to development
Our contribution for the long-term development in destitute countries focuses on
- Training and education to help them support themselves, just like we did in Uganda and do at present in South Africa
- School construction in Afghanistan to secure young people a basis to build upon
- Health like e.g. improvement of the water quality and sanitation in Tanzania
- Social and psychosocial activities like e.g. assistance for orphans in South Africa
- Support for the development of civil societies and making poor and vulnerable groups stand up for their rights. We do advocacy and help developing local organisations.
We have formed partnerships worldwide, and our local partners are instrumental in creating results in a way that the local people feel engaged and involved in their own development.
Together with The Danish Refugee Council we formed DACAAR, which supports the development in poor rural areas.
