We fight for clean water
in Somalia

Somalia is facing a protracted and complex crisis characterised by drought, conflict and recurring natural disasters, which are severely affecting access to clean water, sanitation and basic services. Particularly severe droughts have dried up traditional water sources and worsened the living conditions of millions of people, while conflict and floods are simultaneously driving displacement and increasing the need for urgent humanitarian assistance. 

Danish People's Aid works in Somalia to strengthen access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene through partnerships with local organizations. The efforts combine long-term capacity building with targeted WASH‑activities that reduce health risks and improve living conditions in vulnerable communities. At the same time, we support the role of civil society in ensuring better service delivery and increased resilience to climate-related crises. 

When crises arise, we provide rapid humanitarian assistance. In drought-affected areas, we provide water supplies, hygiene and dignity kits, and cash transfer support to help families meet their most urgent needs.  

In conflict- and flood-affected areas, Danish People's Aid has also provided emergency supplies, sanitation, latrines and cash support, which improve living conditions and reduce disease risks in acute situations.
