Aid for Ukraine

The Russian invasion has sent millions fleeing. After almost three years of war, thousands of homes have been destroyed and daily necessities are often in short supply in the war-torn country.

Since September 2022, Danish People's Aid has assisted civil society in Kyiv, Rivne, Kamarno and Mykolaiv.

In the capital, we support our sister organization Ukrainian Samaritan Association (SSU), which delivers emergency aid in the form of medicine and food to the most vulnerable in Bucha. In Rivne, local hospital buildings have been renovated and have provided 10 rooms for internally displaced people, primarily from Eastern Ukraine.

Komarno's former hospital has been renovated through 2023 and the final stage of construction of shared bathrooms and kitchen facilities has accommodated a total of 60 IDPs from Kharkiv and Luhansk.

Throughout 2023, Danish People's Aid has supported several institutions in Mykolaiv with generators, washing machines and emergency aid.

Local partners

Since October 2022, Danish People's Aid has supported the Samaritan organization in Kiev, SSU, with the renovation of an old bunker. Most recently, SSU has purchased and distributed 700 boxes of food to the most needy in the local area.

SSU has an office on the same site as the Kiev Children's Hospital. As cities have become bomb targets, children and volunteers are spending more time in the shelter. Danish People's Aid has helped with the purchase, shipment and installation of a generator to ensure fresh air supply and electricity

Focus for 2024

Mykolaiv is in particular focus in 2024, where Danish People's Aid is assisting with the reopening of schools. The opening requires shelters and drinking water supply. At one of the high schools, a purification system is being installed to ensure clean drinking water.

Elsewhere in the region, a former boarding school is slated for renovation and will be equipped with toilets, bathrooms and a communal kitchen for the benefit of internally displaced people who are still being forced out of their shattered homes in Eastern Ukraine.
