Researcher and author becomes Public Helper of the Year

Dansk Folkehjælp udpeger Årets Folkehjælper 2026: Prisen går til økonom, forsker og forfatter, Birthe Larsen, for hendes markante bidrag til debatten om økonomisk ulighed og social mobilitet.

Hvert år uddeler Dansk Folkehjælps organisationsbestyrelse prisen som Årets Folkehjælper til et menneske, som har ydet et helt særligt bidrag inden for organisationens virkeområde. I år skete det på Dansk Folkehjælps årsmøde den 19. september i Middelfart.

Dansk Folkehjælps organisationsbestyrelse begrunder prisen med Birthe Larsens markante og vigtige bidrag til den offentlige debat om økonomisk ulighed og social mobilitet.

Lars Andersen, formand for Dansk Folkehjælp og direktør i Arbejderbevægelsens Erhvervsråd, udtaler:

”Birthe Larsen har med afsæt i sin forskning formået at formidle de komplekse sammenhænge mellem ulighed, fattigdom og samfundsudvikling på en nuanceret og tilgængelig måde. Hendes stemme og forskning har og har haft afgørende betydning for erkendelsen af, at der findes fattigdom i Danmark, og at den ikke går væk, bare fordi vi tier stille. Birthe Larsen spørger i sin bog, hvad vi gør ved den stigende ulighed og har nogle bud, som alle, der arbejder med samfundsudvikling, bør kende.” I Birthe Larsens seneste bog ’Hvorfor stiger uligheden – og hvad gør vi ved det?’ går en pointe klart igennem: Vi skal gøre noget ved uligheden ellers mister vi tilliden til hinanden og dermed til det fællesskab, som samfundet bør være.

”Med sin forskning i ryggen og sin egen usikre barndom som personlig empiri, er Birthe Larsen den vigtigste stemme, vi overhovedet kan lytte til i disse år. For det handler dybest set om økonomi. Hvordan vi fordeler og omfordeler for at sikre, at vi er der for hinanden og med hinanden i fællesskabet.” understreger Lars Andersen.
